A l’occasion de la Journée Internationale des Femmes, il est important de mettre en lumière les réalisations et les contributions des femmes du monde entier. Dans cet article, l’équipe de rédaction d’IAMDESI vous dresse le portrait de cinq femmes sud-asiatiques méritant le meilleur des éloges, qui ont surmonté des obstacles pour atteindre les plus hauts sommets de succès.
De la politique à l’entreprise, en passant par les arts et la culture, ces femmes ont excellé dans divers domaines. Elles ont sans aucun doute marqué l’histoire de leurs pays. Certaines d’entre elles ont même été reconnues à l’échelle mondiale pour leur leadership et leur influence.
Ces femmes ont inspiré des générations entières avec leur détermination et leur persévérance. En célébrant la Journée Internationale des Femmes et en honorant les réalisations des femmes sud-asiatiques, nous espérons inspirer et encourager les femmes du monde entier et de la communauté à poursuivre leurs rêves et à faire entendre leur voix pour un monde plus équitable et inclusif.
1- NÉPAL : Ambica Shrestha
Née en 1933, à Darjeeling, en Inde, Ambica Shrestha est une femme d’affaires népalaise. Ambica est considérée comme une pionnière de l’industrie hôtelière au Népal. Après la mort de son mari en 1991, elle reprend l’hôtel qu’ils avaient fondé ensemble. Elle en fait un haut lieu d’accueil touristique et de conservation d’œuvres d’arts népalais.
Ambica Shrestha s’est également beaucoup impliquée dans l’éducation ainsi que l’entreprenariat des femmes népalaises en devenant présidente de la Fédération des entreprises et des professionnels de son pays.

2- INDE : Laxmi Agarwal
Laxmi Aggarwal est une militante pour les droits des survivants d’attaques à l’acide, dont elle-même a été victime, à l’âge de 15 ans. Laxmi Aggarwal a joué un grand rôle dans la réglementation de la vente d’acide en Inde.
Son histoire a contribué à faire prendre conscience des attaques à l’acide et des expériences vécues par les survivants de ce type d’attaque. En 2014, elle reçoit le prix “International Women of Courage” suivi du prix “International Women Empowerment Award en 2019 par l’UNICEF.”

3- SRI LANKA : Vivienne Goonewardene
Vivienne Goonewardene est née en 1916 au Sri Lanka et est décédée en 1996. Elle était une militante anticolonialiste et politicienne. Vivienne était l’aînée d’une famille conservatrice pro-monarchique.
C’est durant ses études universitaires au Musaeus College que son appétence pour la politique s’est développée. Elle a été l’une des premières femmes à être ministre, dans le monde. Elle est considérée comme une figure clé des mouvements indépendantistes indien et sri lankais. A ce jour, il s’agit de la seule femme “Héros National” du Sri Lanka.

4- PAKISTAN : Parveen Shakir
Née en 1952, Parveen Shakir est une poétesse connue pour avoir innové la littérature poétique Ourdou en associant différents styles : le Ghazl et l’Azad Nazm (la prose libre). À contre-courant, ses textes placent la femme au premier plan.
Ainsi, elle aborde ses sentiments, sa passion et sa douleur, à une époque où la poésie était essentiellement tournée vers les sentiments des hommes.

5- BANGLADESH : Nadia Sharmeen
Nadia Sharmeen est une journaliste judiciaire et une militante féministe Bangladaise. Chroniqueuse, elle couvre en 2013 une enquête sur le mouvement fondamentaliste “Hefazat-e-Islam”. Ce rassemblement exige de nombreuses restrictions comme le châtiment des athées.
Elle est alors battue par un groupe d’une soixantaine d’hommes. Son employeur nie l’avoir envoyée sur le lieu de la manifestation et la force à démissionner. Après son rétablissement, elle reprend son activité de journaliste. En 2015, elle reçoit le Prix “International de la Femme de Courage.”
